10/28/13: The Mayor recently proposed to go from geographically-based districts to at-large districts. This is problematic to some because they say it will reduce the little Hispanic representation there is in the council now. (Pasadena is majority Hispanic, but only six out of eight council members are white.) The plan came after the Supreme Court struck down parts of the Voting Rights Act that would have required Pasadena to get approval from the federal government before redistricting. Shoppers are seen shopping the Mi Tienda grocery Store at the corner of Shaver and Spencer Hwy. in Pasadena, Texas. More hispanic people now live in Pasadena, TX then Anglos, this is to go with the story on redistricting. Photo by Thomas B. Shea
